What is a life group?

A life group is a discipleship small group that typically meets weekly for a period of 8-13 weeks. It may be a study group (topics including Bible study, marriage, personal finance, etc.), affinity group (exercise, knitting, cooking, etc.) or a support group (addictions, mental health, etc.). After the 13 weeks finish, a new set of life groups will open for sign ups.

What is the purpose?

In line with the mission of our church to make disciples, life groups foster a safe place for people to grow no matter where they are in their Christian journey. In addition, life groups are evangelistic focused and create an atmosphere safe for both believers and non-believers.

What does a group look like?

A typical group of around 6-15 (depending on the type of group) would meet weekly on a specific day and time. This could happen anywhere—in a home, an office building, a church classroom or even on a basketball court! The format of the meeting will depend on each group type and curriculum, but a group will begin with some sort of icebreaker or guided social time, continue with personal prayer requests and reports, then the group will have the study time, and after finishing with prayer, groups my disperse for the week or continue to socialize afterwards. This meeting may last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Some affinity groups that do activities (sports, cooking, knitting, etc.) may have a shorter meeting of 15-30 minutes with the socializing to take place during the affinity activity.
